Management Team

Roger Stark -- Founder & CEO

Roger brings LEC more than 25 years of proven business leadership in both consumer and business-to-business to LEC.  His experience spans operations management, integrated marketing, sales, finance,new media, video and film production, and product distribution.  

He has worked for companies such as Paramount Productions, Spectra Merchandizing, and Braun Design.  He also founded WinkStar/S.P.A. Worldwide, an international interactive marketing company specializing in the creation and design of marketing programs, interactive CDs, Web communications and interactive events.  He was instrumental in the new design launch of PC Magazine, Computer Shopper and PC Sources for Ziff Davis Publishing.  He supported product launches for TerraGlyph Interactive Studios, including Steven Spielberg's first interactive new media game for Tiny Toons; Electronic Arts (EA Sports); Tiger Interactive; and Namco Cybertainment, Inc. 

Roger has devoted the last ten years to studying cognitive sciences and researching the learning enhancement marketplace.

Betsy Hill -- President & COO

Betsy Hill has more than 25 years of general management and marketing experience in both consumer and business-to-business channels.  Prior to joining LEC, Betsy served in multiple management and marketing roles for The NutraSweet Company, Illinova Energy Partners (energy information services), and the viaLink Company (Internet-based supply chain services).  She has also had her own consulting firm. 

She received her M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and an M.A.T. (Master of Arts in Teaching) from Northwestern.  She teaches strategy and critical thinking at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, and is chairman of the board of trustees of Chicago State University.

David Schick -- Vice President of Business Development

David Schick has 30 years' experience in the consumer packaged goods industry, working with many Fortune 500 companies including Ocean Spray, RJR Foods and Warner Lambert.  Past responsibilities include national sales management, strategic planning, trade promotion and marketing.  Prior to LEC, David was Vice President of Trade Promotion and Analysis at the Dial Corporation.

Brian Wink -- Chief Technology Officer

Brian Wink has 20 years of experience in personal computers, technology and software development.  He was a national-award-winning systems engineer and business development executive for Apple Computer.  He has also held senior management positions in a number of pioneer technology companies, including MacroMedia, Fifth Generation Systems, and Informix Software.   Brian was CEO and founder of WinComm, a company specializing in Internet-based solutions and network integration.

Sara Sawtelle, Ph.D. -- Director of Scientific Affairs

Sara Sawtelle has more than 16 years experience in education and technology, particularly in professional and academic training in the application of technology in office and educational settings.  Prior to joining LEC, she was the instructional technology coordinator at The Culver Academies.  She also taught Chemistry at Culver, as she did previously at the University of Memphis and Saint Mary's College in Indiana.  Sara has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Boston College, and is a member of the International Society of Technology in Education.

Karen Buccola, Director of Customer Service

Karen Buccola joined LEC in 2005 to manage the company's customer service and fulfillment operations.  Previous experience includes working with the Abbott Laboratories account with EduNeering, a company that provides custom computer-based training programs in support of regulatory compliance.  Previously, she spent 20 years with the NutraSweet Company, as a customer service representative and managing the consumer response center.  Prior to that, she taught in the Addison Public Schools.
